There’s something magical about the holiday season. The twinkle lights somehow make it feel warmer and cozier, even as the sun sets earlier and the nights get colder.
Then there’s the gift-giving and the time spent with the people we care about. And the new release books just might agree.
From a father-daughter journey through Alzheimer’s to the incredible power that grows in female friendships, this month has a book for every bookworm on your list.
Here are seven new and notable books coming out in December.

House of Day, House of Night

Longing to understand where she lives and how she might belong, she works to uncover the hidden stories of everyone and everything surrounding her.
In a series of interconnected stories—from the town's founding to the lives of the people who currently reside there—she learns that the village has more than a history: it’s a cosmology.

A Weekend on Allyson Island
On the brink of her fiftieth birthday, Moira Allyson is forced to admit that her life didn’t turn out the way she once hoped. Her husband is dead, her two sons are away, and while she’s financially stable, there’s no denying that she is also incredibly lonely.
When she invites her four closest friends to spend the weekend in her opulent waterfront mansion, she envisions a perfect getaway weekend among friends. But each woman brings her own struggles. All of them came prepared to keep up appearances. None of them expected that their enduring friendship might just be the thing that heals them.

The Award
David Trent wants nothing more than to write a successful novel. Living above a Very Famous Author doesn’t help. Especially because Silas Hale refuses to even make eye contact with David.
But when David wins a prestigious award, everything changes. Suddenly, Silas notices David. Before he can decide whether that’s a good thing, the award administrator brings David an alarming update.
Now, faced with nothing but desperate options, David is surprised once again when fate intervenes. But no one can predict the consequences.

Television

So, he decides to hold a lottery, giving away his entire megamillion-dollar salary to one lucky fan, and move in with a much younger model. His best friend and sometimes lover watches him undo his career as she ponders their twenty-year-long, unlikely relationship.
Meanwhile, an aspiring filmmaker who doesn’t know either of them works on a script about best friends and lovers that he hopes will make enough money so that he can be free to make great art.

The Jaguar's Roar: A Novel
In 1814, two explorers went into the jungles of Brazil. Three years later, they emerged with two indigenous children, Iñe-e and Juri. No one blinked an eye at the kidnapping.
It was common practice to obtain “living specimens” for the sake of science. The children didn’t survive long after arriving in Europe. Many know the explorers' accounts. Now, it’s time for Iñe-e and Juri to tell theirs.
