Gillian Flynn skyrocketed to fame with her third novel, Gone Girl, later made into a movie by David Fincher. But from the very start, she proved herself adept and crafting chilling psychological thrillers. Sharp Objects, Flynn's debut, is perhaps her darkest work—and it's slated to hit the small screen this summer as a limited series on HBO.
The narrative follows Camille, a journalist at a small paper who is sent back to her hometown to cover a murder. Naturally, going home resurfaces some buried memories.
The trailer for the HBO adaptation has just appeared online. It promises all the darkness of a Gillian Flynn story with the drama prestige of last summer’s biggest hit, Big Little Lies.
In fact, the director of Big Little Lies, Jean-Marc Vallée, will be taking on Sharp Objects, and with an assist from producers of Get Out, we’re anticipating the terror factor will be turned up a notch. With a cast filled with stars (Amy Adams, Patricia Clarkson, and more), Sharp Objects is sure to shock even the most seasoned thriller expert.
Check out the teaser for Sharp Objects below:
Sharp Objects will premiere on HBO on June 7, 2018.
