Let’s face it: stories can be predictable. We all expect the detective will solve the crime, the couple will get their happily ever after, and the hero will save the day. And while a good author will create characters who we love to read about—even when we know what will happen next—sometimes you just want the shock and awe of a final, brilliant twist.
Enter the plot twist. Most often used in thriller novels, a good plot twist won't come totally out of left field, and will make everything in the story click. A great classic example is Jane Eyre—spoiler alert, it's not a ghost in the attic!
Which book has the best plot twist?
Determining the “best” plot twist is tricky—do you prefer an unreliable narrator, a murderous mystery, or a psychological suspense novel? Whatever your cup of tea is, we bet you'll love one of the unpredictable books below.
From police procedurals that take a dark turn to young adult novels that may have you shedding a tear, these books are full of cunning plot twists.
You’ll be guessing until the very last page.
