Though some people grow to love books once they’re adults, most lifelong readers (including the editors at Early Bird Books) started young. Because of that, there will always be a special place in our hearts for the whimsical stories we read over and over as children—the ones that made us realize just how magical books could be.
Below, our favorite quotes from children’s books. They hooked us from the first time we read them.
“Do you understand how there could be any writing in a spider's web?"
"Oh, no," said Dr. Dorian. "I don't understand it. But for that matter I don't understand how a spider learned to spin a web in the first place. When the words appeared, everyone said they were a miracle. But nobody pointed out that the web itself is a miracle."
"What's miraculous about a spider's web?" said Mrs. Arable. "I don't see why you say a web is a miracle—it's just a web."
"Ever try to spin one?" asked Dr. Dorian.”

“I suppose there's a time in practically every young boy's life when he's affected by that wonderful disease of puppy love. I don't mean the kind a boy has for the pretty little girl that lives down the road.
