Contemporary Romance Books Every Romantic Should Read

Contemporary romance books are stories of love and lust that take place in a modern setting and incorporate themes that are relevant and relatable for readers at this time in history.

Contemporary romance novels contain diverse casts of characters with different lived experiences to represent the many backgrounds of modern readers. Contemporary romances don’t shy away from topics that might have been considered taboo for past romance writers, such as race, sexuality, and disability.

While many may instinctively think of Victorian balls and courtship when they think of romance, contemporary romance books show that there is just as much love in the air in current times, even if characters drive cars, wear Apple Watches, and might even be on Hinge.

Characters in the contemporary romance genre are often quirky, messy, and awkward because, let’s face it, so are a lot of us!

In recent years, authors like Colleen Hoover and Emily Henry have brought contemporary romance books into the center of the literary world and the genre has surged in popularity.

Fall in love with these contemporary romances.
