The Best Fantasy Books and Novels

For most readers, your book is your escape from the rest of the world. And while you can flee to whatever world you’d like, fantasy books have a knack for being the most welcoming place to go. The best fantasy books not only distract you from the real world, but make you feel like you’re part of another, vastly more exciting one.

Some of us enjoy worlds that are a little more familiar, such as historical fantasy books, or worlds that we can potentially visit (if only in a theme park) like books for folks who love Disney. Sometimes we need a little more distraction, and so our list of afrofuturism books that explore the past, present, and future may be necessary.

If you’re in need, there are always classics to fall back on, such as fantasy books with dragons or fantasy books for Harry Potter or Game of Thrones fans. Whatever magical goings-on are needed in your literary escape, you can rest assured that there’s a fantasy book out there that will suit your needs.

JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series is the most-read fantasy series of all time. Other popular fantasy books include JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy and George RR Martin’s Game of Thrones series.

Fantasy is a genre of speculative fiction that is defined by its fantasy world settings and supernatural or otherwise unnatural characters. While its magical elements can be inspired by mythology or folklore, what’s important is that its characters and/or setting is fictional and imaginary.
